Beijing

Beijing is the capital of China. Beijing’s registered population is 14.2 million. The migrant worker population, is estimated at 4 million. It is China’s second largest city, after Shanghai. Beijing is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads and motorways passing through the city. Beijing International Capital airport’s new “terminal 3” is considered to be one of the biggest in the world.

Beijing is also the political, educational, and cultural center of the People’s Republic of China. In 2008 the city successfully hosted Olympic Games. 10,500 athletes competed in 302 events in 28 sports.

Beijing is one of the most developed cities in China. Financial industry is one of the most important industries of Beijing. By the end of 2007, there are 751 financial organizations in Beijing that generated RMB128.6 billion revenue accounting for 11.6% of the total financial industry revenue of the entire country. It is also accounts for 13.8% of Beijing’s GDP, the highest percentage of that of all Chinese cities.

The Beijing CBD (Central Business District) is located at the Guomao area, is home to various corporate regional headquarters, shopping precincts, and high-end housing. The Beijing Financial Street, in the Fuxingmen and Fuchengmen area, is a modern financial center. The Wangfujing and Xidan areas are major shopping districts. Zhongguancun, dubbed “China’s Silicon Valley”, continues to be a major center in electronics and computer related industries, as well as pharmaceuticals-related research. Yizhuang, located to the southeast of the urban area, is becoming a new center in pharmaceuticals, IT, and materials engineering.
